Chapter 18: Don’t Want to Break Up

On the surface, it seemed like Jin Fubai wasn’t affected but in fact, these days he felt very annoyed and stuffy in his chest, feeling very upset.

Their entangled kiss didn’t last for long. He seemed to be punishing her, biting at Xiang Yu’s tongue. At the end of the kiss, Xiang Yu’s eyes gleamed towards him and with a moist voice, “I grew up with Tang Yuchi since we were children. His parents are my godparents.”

“Grew up together since you were children?” Jin Fubai said in a tone implying danger, he twisted her earlobe, and asked in her ear, “Oh, you were promised to wed each other when you were young??”

“No.”

Xiang Yu put her hand into Jin Fubai’s coat, where only the thin cloth of his shirt wrapped his waist. Rarely had she taken such an initiative and Jin Fubai couldn’t hold back. He caged the person in his arms.

Xiang Yu raised her head in his arms and her eyes were bright, “Not only are you angry, I’m also angry, why don’t you tell me who was that woman who ate ice cream with you abroad?”

Jin Fubai was obviously not anticipating her question, he frowned and thought for a while, only to remember a scene in his memory, “That’s my cousin.”

“Was she promised to wed you when you were younger?” Xiang Yu asked, imitating his tone.

“There is a blood relationship between us, how could we be arranged to wed each other? Are you jealous?”

Jin Fubai was not a person who loved to bicker. At this time, his face was slightly dark, and he kissed her on the long bridge.

Perhaps it was because New Year was approaching, there were colourful lights hung on the trees making the night particularly beautiful.

His kiss was gentle and long. If their interaction stayed at this moment, it would actually be a perfect night.

It’s just that Xiang Yu was greedy for more at this moment and she did not hesitate to fight for them.

When they entered the hotel room, they sat opposite each other and she suddenly asked, “You said that I should follow you and I agreed. But I don’t know if in your circle between lovers can there be jealousy? Do they get pissed off at each other?”

When she asked this Jin Fubai was pouring her tea. Hearing her words, the movement of his hand paused slightly and then he continued to slowly pour tea into the teacup.

In the drifting oolong tea fragrance, he raised his eyes, “What do you want to say?”

Xiang Yu smiled, “Jin Fubai, I am very greedy.”

“I don’t like you enough?” He held a cup of tea lightly and he gently placed it in front of her.

Xiang Yu didn’t answer for a while and took a sip of tea. The sip of Longjing tea was full of a sweet scent.

Her voice did not soften because of the scent of the tea, on the contrary, it was more serious than ever, “Not like, love.”

Jin Fubai who was opposite her did not speak for a while and his expression was indistinguishable. Xiang Yu knew that she had made things difficult for him because of what she wanted so she didn’t urge him and she leisurely took the cup of tea and handed it to Jin Fubai to fill it up for her.

Jin Fubai chuckled slightly, “What, am I a tea pourer today?”

He said so but his hands didn’t stop, picking up a small purple teapot and filling her empty teacup.

The person’s hands were beautiful but his fingers were not too slender, the shape of the joints had some strength, the skin was as clean as a good jade and they looked like the hand of a pampered person. It was pleasing to watch him pour tea.

After this appreciation, Xiang Yu opened her mouth to say this sentence, “If it’s not love, I don’t want it.” This decisive action in such a complex situation made Jin Fubai who had witnessed strong winds and waves before feel shocked for a bit.

After she said this Xiang Yu relaxed in an instant, completely changing her attitude. It seemed that Xiang Yu no longer regarded Jin Fubai as the opposite sex at all.

During the meal, she could discuss the dishes with him very calmly saying, “Cheese Baked Sweet Potato Dessert is better in the vendor’s stall in front of school, I can take you to try it later.” Without waiting for Jin Fubai to react, she opened her eyes widely for a moment, and then laughed ‘poof’, wiggling her slender index finger, saying, “Sorry, sorry, I forgot that there is no future. This promise must be forfeited.”

In fact, before he walked into the hotel, or earlier, as early as when Jin Fubai realized that he was choked up in annoyance these days, he was vaguely aware that this relationship was a little out of control. But he didn’t think there was any problem as long as the general direction didn’t get out of control.

As a result, this girl went to break it off with him when she came to see him? In fact, Jin Fubai also knows that cutting it off is the best solution. Loving is fine, spoiling and pampering is not bad either

But love can’t be forgiven.

After the meal, Xiang Yu actually paid the bill while he wasn’t paying attention.

Jin Fubai was a little displeased, “Why are you paying?”

She smiled and shook her purse, “I always said that there was never a chance for me to invite you to dinner, let me treat you for this meal. I was very happy being together with you during this period. But I may not be happy if I continue. Let’s stop here.”

She finished speaking and she was so swift that it left him with nothing else to say.

Xiang Yu forgot to pull the zipper up on her wallet in her hand and with a flash, her ID, bank card and spare coins splashed all over the floor.

She went out to eat and wore work clothes, a white shirt and a dark gray suit skirt. When she squatted down and picked up something on the floor, the skirt fabric tightly wrapped around her hips. The lines tight and round.

Jin Fubai took a look then walked around in front of her and squatted down to help pick it up. Picking up the last coin, he looked at Xiang Yu and flicked the coin into her hand, “Where are you going, I’ll send you.”

Xiang Yu shook her head, “No, once we are out of this door our relationship is over. I’ll be embarrassed if you have to send me off, I’ll take a taxi and go home.”

In their circle, men have always been afraid of women being confused, afraid of trouble when they separate, and afraid of being entangled by women.

It was the first time Jin Fubai met a girl like Xiang Yu who was so clear about it. How would he describe it? He suddenly blamed her for being too transparent.

Jin Fubai got into the car and looked at her from the rear mirror. The girl walked very freely, carrying a bag without turning her head and stopped a taxi from the street to get in. The taxi drove past his car, and she politely whistled to signal him, “I’m leaving, bye bye.”

Jin Fubai snorted, started the car and drove out of the parking lot.

All right, just a farewell meal. Is he short of a woman like her?

After this day, they entered February and there were only ten days left before Chinese New Year. Jin Fubai didn’t feel any discomfort at first. Only occasionally when he went back to the hotel and saw a pile of CDs on the bedside table would he remember Xiang Yu sitting on the bed, picking up the CDs and reading him a brief introduction seriously.

In the middle of the night, she smiled and carefully selected the films making him become gentle and soft, letting her do it again and again and in the end didn’t she fall asleep.

Perhaps the night was particularly imaginative, Jin Fubai suddenly thought of her frowning eyebrows and the appearance of her neck tilted upwards as she gave a soft groan. This crippling hotel…. He can’t live in it anymore, it made him think about something he shouldn’t have thought about.

The next day Jin Fubai flew abroad to visit his grandmother. As the elders in the family were busy cooperating across countries, only he and his grandmother had breakfast in the restaurant in the morning.

For foreigners, on Chinese New Year’s Eve many transnational corporations regardless of whether you want to reunite with your family or not, you must still do the same amount of work and it couldn’t be lessened.

Jin Fubai’s grandmother drank a portion of Tingzi congee and instructed him, “You’ve been idle these days, help your dad and uncles more.”

Tingzi congee originated from Cantonese cuisine

Jin Fubai sat in a chair waiting for the Cantonese chef to bring up his portion of porridge, and said in a leisurely manner, “Aren’t I busy?”

“Are you busy? They came to give gifts these few days. Many of the girls are not too bad, I really want to choose one to be a granddaughter-in-law.”

Although they are abroad, many people know that the Chinese will celebrate Chinese New Year’s Eve and they specifically asked about giving gifts to grandmothers in accordance with customs. It is estimated that the group of people intentionally mentioned their own daughter, and his grandmother was also moved. She wished for her grandson to have a wife; it has not only been for a day or two.

This kind of topic turned off Jin Fubai’s appetite and he held a smile to some degree. After taking two sips of porridge, he put it down and didn’t touch it anymore. When the morning light fell on the table through the windows, Jin Fubai remembered some girl’s Cheese Baked Sweet Potato and turned to ask the chef, “Do you know how to make Cheese Baked Sweet Potato?”

Before the chef could speak, he remembered that Xiang Yu had said that the vendor’s stall at the entrance of the school was delicious, so he waved his hand.

In these days, Jin Fubai threw himself into a trap and was caught by his family to work, helping sift through information in the bidding company. The secretary who followed the elders was from Sichuan and Chongqing. In addition to his poor Cantonese skills, the secretary occasionally spoke a few words in English.

It was strange to say, but as Jin Fubai sat on the leather chair for the boss and looked at the piles of forms and materials, he suddenly missed Xiang Yu’s Beijing dialect.

He didn’t know what major she studied at university and where her roommates were from. She was a native of Beijing. Once the Beijing dialect came through her mouth, it was so composed, it felt especially special.

The secretary was still reporting information from the bidding company and Jin Fubai felt frustrated for no reason. He took out a cigarette, stuffed the agarwood stick in and lit it. Seeing that he didn’t have the patience to listen, the secretary read the mood and stopped talking.

Jin Fubai opened a window and in the yard, a child from his uncle’s family was playing with a white child from the neighbour’s family.

“Thinking of the wife?”

Wasn’t it “Thinking of my dear ones?”

This is a saying from a poem, it can also be interpreted as feeling homesick or missing them. In pinyin wife is qi and dear one is qin

The little boy lost a front tooth and his speaking was off. Jin Fubai curled up his lips and said in his heart the child didn’t know how to utter words but he still tried to teach others?

He finished smoking and put the butt in the ashtray. He turned his head to see a pile of bidding materials in a cardboard box. On the first copy, the bidder’s last name was Xiang.

Jin Fubai picked it up and glanced at it casually, “Why are the bids in this box not considered?”

The secretary said, “They are all from small companies with no background.”

The relationship of interest between companies is complicated, for some, it is not because of the product but the ability to cooperate with the other which would give them a good reputation.

Regardless of this, Jin Fubai patted the material on the table, “Just this one, I think this bidder’s last name sounds like a good match.”

Jin Fubai didn’t care about the expression of the secretary behind him, he took his coat and walked downstairs. What “With every festive activity I think of my dear ones”, according to him, that girl in China has already forgotten about him a long time ago.

This is the full line from the words above in the poem.

What farewell meal, he didn’t want to break up yet.
